I simply did not like this volume。 I was glad to see the end of the strange arc involving Gentle and La Brava （both of whom need some serious help， especially La Brava）。 Those are two characters I could not care less about， and honestly， the fight between them and Midoriya truly felt like a filler; it added absolutely nothing of worth to the story as a whole。 Also， the school festival was terribly underwhelming and boring。 The two-page spread of Jiro is awesome， but that definitely doesn’t save I simply did not like this volume。 I was glad to see the end of the strange arc involving Gentle and La Brava （both of whom need some serious help， especially La Brava）。 Those are two characters I could not care less about， and honestly， the fight between them and Midoriya truly felt like a filler; it added absolutely nothing of worth to the story as a whole。 Also， the school festival was terribly underwhelming and boring。 The two-page spread of Jiro is awesome， but that definitely doesn’t save the arc itself。 Lastly， Endeavor officially becoming number one hero is one of my least favorite things ever。 I’m sorry， but nothing that man can do will make me like him， the way he treated Todoroki and the rest of his family is just unforgivable， and I desperately hope we do not get a redemption arc for such an awful person。 However， we did get introduced to Hawks， and I do love him， so at least we got that！ 。。。more

Cool end to the music festival arc， I like how it gave significant roles to minor characters like Jirou。 The whole Gentle and La Brava subplot was tiring。 I have to say， I am obsessed with Hawks， hope he gets a lot of screen time in the future！ Endeavor sucks and no matter how much “redeeming” the author tries to do， he will always be a horrible person in hero’s clothing to me。

U。A。 School Festival Arc My Hero Academia， Vol。 19 - My Hero Academia， Vol。 20My Hero Academia seems be having an ongoing problem， after they have a big arc they aren't sure what to do with the story。 The arcs afterwards are always school focused and are starting to feel like filler， in the way it's not adding much narratively but is just padding the story out。 This one has prankster who wants to mess up the schools music event， he gets a backstory showing that he's not really a bad guy。 But hon U。A。 School Festival Arc My Hero Academia， Vol。 19 - My Hero Academia， Vol。 20My Hero Academia seems be having an ongoing problem， after they have a big arc they aren't sure what to do with the story。 The arcs afterwards are always school focused and are starting to feel like filler， in the way it's not adding much narratively but is just padding the story out。 This one has prankster who wants to mess up the schools music event， he gets a backstory showing that he's not really a bad guy。 But honestly it just felt kind of boring， the volume before which introduced all of this just dragged。 At least this this volume had some action to it， especially the end。 That was awesome but I believe it's actually part of the next arc， as it's focused on the heroes instead of the students。This arc wasn't horrible， at the end it was entertaining。 I'm glad Deku got a lecture， which has been long overdue as he keeps making the same mistake over and over again。 I'm glad we have arcs like this as well because when it gets animated everything is elaborated on。 So we'll actually get to see the concert， the fashion show and the play fully fleshed out。 Instead of just saying it's being done， having the preparation for it then just showing us the outcome instead of the events itself。 。。。more

The Gentle fight and the Endeavor fight weren’t super interesting--I’m usually more in it for the character development。 The school festival and the appearance of Hawks totally made up for it， though。 Favorite panel: one of Shinso scaring people in the haunted house during the school festival。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 The conclusion of Midoriya’s fight with Gentle Criminal （a really creepy guy）。 It concludes in a way that honestly confused me。 What was the purpose of it？There’s some parallel made between Gentle trying to see La Brava smile （and no way you spin that， it reads really creepy） and Midoriya trying to see Eri smile。 The difference being that Midoriya cared about Eri because she suffered a traumatic event and he didn’t think he really saved her until he could be sure she’d be able to feel joy again。 The conclusion of Midoriya’s fight with Gentle Criminal （a really creepy guy）。 It concludes in a way that honestly confused me。 What was the purpose of it？There’s some parallel made between Gentle trying to see La Brava smile （and no way you spin that， it reads really creepy） and Midoriya trying to see Eri smile。 The difference being that Midoriya cared about Eri because she suffered a traumatic event and he didn’t think he really saved her until he could be sure she’d be able to feel joy again。 Wholesome and sweet。 La Brava is a girl that truly just needed therapy。 For some reason， getting rejected by one boy in middle school left her despondent and suicidal。 That’s。。。 so freaking weird and not a good story for anyone， especially a female character。 She then gets unhealthily attached to a grown man who’s trying to seek glory any way that he can after failing out of hero school。 La Brava’s only power helps him - which I feel was a （maybe unintentional？） metaphor for how a little girl’s praise helped Gentle feel better about himself。 I mean。。。 yikes。 Maybe it’d be a tad less creepy if he was actually her father？ This just reads like a story you hear about on To Catch a Predator。。。Anyway， I enjoyed the festival。 That was cute。 I liked Hawks’ introduction and it ends on a cliffhanger。 。。。more
